The University of Zagreb is organizing workshops on innovation, intellectual property and entrepreneurship for doctoral candidates. Workshops are organized as an activity proposed by TEMPUS OPUS project and are intended for doctoral candidates enrolled in doctoral programs at University of Zagreb and project's partner universities: University of Rijeka (Croatia), University of Zadar (Croatia), University of Dubrovnik (Croatia), Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia), University of Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (Macedonia) and University of Montenegro.
Participants from partner universities will have covered accommodation and travel expenses by TEMPUS OPUS.

Introduction to Innovation

- introduction to Innovation;
- technology Transfer and Knowledge Exchange from Universities and Faculties:
- evaluating the commercial potential of inventions and research results.
- introduction to Valuation methods of IPR;
- commercialising your research results- case studies and examples.
Learning outcomes:
- understand the role that innovation plays in developing a knowledge economy,
- identify the main types of innovation,
- describe the main processes and decisions points of the University technology transfer process,
- understand the mechanisms for successful knowledge exchange,
- evaluate an invention disclosure to enable a commercialisation process to occur,
- introduce technology transfer activities in their research, start to asses results for commercialization potential,
- value an item of Intellectual Property,
- develop and justify different routes to market for different research inventions.
Intellectual Property: Legal Aspects

- overview of the entrepreneurial process
- opportunity recognition and evaluation
- business plan basics
- funding a new venture
- nurturing a new venture
Learning outcomes:
- understand and analyze key elements of the entrepreneurial process
- describe how opportunities are identified and a business plan is created
- list the sources of funding that exist and how they are functioning
- understand the different types of non financial support required to grow a new business
- have an over-view of how entrepreneurship is developing in other regions and countries (Europe, USA, China and the Far East)
