The areas of scientific interest of the Department’s employees range from C*-algebras, Hilbert C*-moduls, synthetic geometry, geometry of Euclidian and non-Euclidian plains, constructive projective geometry, mathematical modelling, mathematical analysis and homogenization of multiphase flow through porous media and astrophysics, planetology, natural EM in the environment, environmental protection (Light and EM pollution) to hydrology and hydrogeology, seismology and soil mechanics. In the course of the academic year 2021/2022, scientific research activity of the Department was financed by the Croatian science foundation’s research project entitled „Mathematical analysis and numerical methods for diffusion driven multiphase systems“; University of Zagreb’s financial grant of the 2021 scientific researches entitled „Optimizing the exploitation of mineral raw materials by increasing energy efficiency II“ and „Birkhoff-James orthogonality in normed spaces II”; University of Zagreb’s financial grant of the 2022 scientific research entitled „Birkhoff-James orthogonality in normed spaces III”; institutional scientific research „Curves and surfaces in non-Euclidean spaces”; as well as the Faculty’s Fund for development. Department’s employees collaborate scientifically and professionally with the employees of other Faculties belonging to the University of Zagreb (the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing), as well as other universities and scientific organizations all over the world (HTWK, Leipzig, Germany; University of Life Sciences, Lublin, Poland; Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Dolgoprudny, Russia; Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour, Pau, France) and with Science and Education Center Višnjan and the Višnjan Observatory. Staff members are the editors of the scientific journal „Operators and Matrices“, „Rudarsko-geološko-naftni zbornik“ and scientific and professional journal „KoG“. In the year 2021, the Department’s staff published seven scientific papers in journals with international reviews and one professional paper, and in the year 2022, they published three scientific papers in journals with international reviews and one professional paper. They are active in the organization of scientific and professional gatherings. This academic year, members of our Department participed in the organization of scientific meetings „ICGG 2022 – The 20th International Conference on Geometry and Graphics“ held online and „5th Croatian Conference on Geometry. and Graphics“ held in Dubrovnik. The staff gave lectures at international scientific meetings: „ApplMath22 - 11th Conference on Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing'' held on Brijuni and „5th Conference on Geometry and Graphics“ held in Dubrovnik. The Department participates actively in the work of the Functional analysis seminar, Geometry seminar, Differential geometry seminar, Differential equations and numerical analysis at the Faculty of Science, Department of Mathematics. The Department’s staff members hold prominent positions in professional associations from their scientific fields: members of the Managing Committee of the Croatian Society for Geometry and Graphics, a member of the Managing Committee of the International Society for Geometry and Graphics and member of Committee on Geodesy and Geophysics.
