Sports section of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering

During the academic year 2016/2017, the Section failed to achieve planned results, expected after the completion of the academic year 2015/2016. The following sports competed in University leagues: football (futsal), basketball, volleyball, handball and rowing. Poor training conditions are still a problem and prevent us from training properly and from preparing for duels with the best teams at the University. Some teams (basketball, handball) had no appropriate training times at all. Due to the change in the organizers of the University matches and the ensuing negligence, waterpolo league was not even organized so no matches were even possible. This means that during the following academic year, the waterpolo team will be defending their gold medal won in the academic year 2015/2016. The Faculty's futsal team achieved its best result ever by winning fourth place amid very strong competition of 36 teams and, together with the volleyball team, represent the only bright spot of the last year’s competetive season. The volleyball team returned to the University scene after several years' absence. Although their results are not impressive, the very fact that they reactivated is of great importance to the Faculty. The basketball team that was quite good during the past several years and was hoping to achieve some important results, has finally disintegrated, primarily due to the lack of training. This resulted in their dropping out of the first University league. The handball team, much like the volleyball team, was eliminated during the group stage of the competition. And finally, in the year of great defeats, the pride and joy of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering, the rowing team, also had no positive results. Due to the lack of athletes and to negligence, they failed to row in any regattas at all. After such a terrible year, all that remains is to hope for a better one as well as the greater support of the entire Faculy.
